Fox Sports reporter Lee Spencer recently wrote a thought provoking piece that takes a long look at the state of NASCAR and the challenges facing the organization going forward. One of the most interesting things that we learned in the piece is that Brian France doesn’t plan on spending a very long time at the helm of the ship.
Brian France’s dad, Bill France Jr., spent 30 years running NASCAR.
Brian was quoted last year as saying he would, “not have a 30-year run like (his) father for a variety of reasons.” He also expressed doubts that anyone running a company for 30 years could be effective. Just our thought, but the 30 years that Bill Jr. was running the show had some of the most explosive growth and expansion periods the sport has ever seen.
Obviously the idea that Brian France would ditch out of the top spot brings the question of who will follow up. Will their actually be a person with a last name different from France running NASCAR in the near-term future?
Spencer deals with many of the complex challenges facing not only NASCAR but all large racing organizations next season. It’s a good take!
