It seems that every other week we’re hearing news about Richard Petty’s NASCAR team and none of it ever seems to be good. There was the rumor of Dodge leaving them high and dry, a rumored switch to Toyota, the sale of the majority of the team to George Gillette, the new news that Gillette is looking to sell his majority interest to a Saudi Prince, and the fact that Petty is looking into merging some (all?) of the team with Yates Racing.

SceneDaily reports that Petty claims to know nothing of Gillette’s relationship with the Saudi prince that he’s trying to sell his part of the team to. On the face of it, neither hand seems to know what the other one is doing. The results are showing on the race track as well. Team driver Kasey Khane had had engines blow up, set-ups missed wildly, and the uncertainty that comes with not knowing who your true boss is and whether or not you’ll have a job next season.

The team has gone through three mergers or partnerships in the last 15 months. That’s no way to run an airline. If someone smarter than us can truly decipher what the heck is actually happening here, the floor is yours.

This scenario does not seem fitting of Petty’s stature in the sport. We hope some stabilty reigns for Petty and the crewmen who make a living working on these cars.
