Wild March Meet Photo Sequence – An Altered Launches Itself Completely Airborne!

One of the wildest runs at the 2013 March Meet came during Sunday eliminations and it involved the altered below. The blown, alcohol burning big block Chevy makes some big power and when all of that power was transferred to the sticky strip at Famoso, it hit the wheelie bar so hard that the bar broke, allowing the car to test the laws of physics. Believe it or not, the short wheelbase machine had so much traction that it rotated into a wheelie and then it literally launched itself skyward for a couple of milliseconds before coming back to Earth with a bang. The car was able to drive off the end of the course but it could not have been a comfortable ride for the driver! The landing must have lead to some yelling and bad words…and some Charmin being added to the seat of his pants.

SCROLL DOWN TO SEE AN ALTERED BECOME AN AIRPLANE FOR A BRIEF, FLEETING MOMENT!

chris bates is one hell of a driver i am one of the crew for this car and if you look close at the butterflys he is off the throttle as soon as it comes up and then back in it when he lands to try and salvage a run and we could not be more proud of his driving ability we gave the crowd a thrill and both car and driver are safe thanks alomen for an awesome weekend

        Hi Drew,
After i posted .. an afterthought was that my comment could be interpreted as a ‘diss’ of the driver. My apologies as it was not meant to be so. Truly you can see in the photos exactly as you describe. He did a great job. I’m sure that Chris is just what you say and i have much respect for all of the drivers i know and have known; those who go straight and those who turn left. i humbly extend my apology for any negative feelings i have caused in you.

What? Everyone else on spring break and all you can come up with is seven pictures since last Thursday?

John apparently you have missed the dozens and dozens of hours of love streaming video and thousands of photos we’ve posted from the march meet where both Chad and I have been since Thursday.
