zMax Dragway Names Broadcast Center In Honor of Steve Evans

We ran across a great piece of reporting on Rob Geiger’s site, Go2Geiger.com, about the broadcast center at zMax Dragway being named in honor of broadcasting great Steve Evans. It is a fitting tribute to the guy who, even after having passed nearly 10 years ago, is still regarded as the best drag racing television reporter/commentator/announcer ever.

Rob’s story takes a great look back at Evans’ career and how he rose to become tied directly to Diamond P productions, the NHRA broadcasts, and motorsports events all across the country.

We shared our own thoughts on Evans and his influence on us a while back. Simply put, if you watched racing on TV during the 1980s and 1990s you were lucky enough to see the guy who broke the mold. Bruton and Marcus Smith did a good thing by naming the broadcast center at the greatest drag strip on Earth after a man who may have actually been speechless for the first time in his life had he seen it.
