(Words and photos by Benoit Pigeon) – The Nostalgia AA/Gasser group was back at New London on Sunday of Memorial Day week end. It was a great event with a lot of cars from out of town. In fact, not all gassers were part of the group adding to even more fun. I am still stuck with a picture I saw of a ’51 Chevy gasser I saw in a magazine as a kid and boy oh boy we had two on the property! The yellow one on the pictures is apparently a true old gasser from the old days while the magnificent orange was a visitor from car rich region of south east Pennsylvania.
Blown slingshot dragsters are also regulars at the track, some with actual, only updated, 60’s frames. The event was dedicated to a long time racer who past recently and the spirit of the day was largely focused on older and nostalgia cars. From what I witnessed, it was totally perfect with a great mixture of all kinds of cars doing great wheel stands and exaggerated burn outs. We’ll be going back for sure even if it takes a year.
As for the AA/Gassers, Derek Childress, from SC, driving his yellow Willys was the proud winner against local racer Jr Ward in the Junk Yard Dog in an all Hemi final.
