There are few drag strips in the country more unforgiving than the Texas Motorplex. It is a place where some of the sport’s biggest runs have taken place and yet it also has a reputation of being particularly tricky for cars that run limited downforce in the rear. The fully concrete surface is flat and smooth and always prepped to a high level but the groove is typically pretty narrow. Lots of pro stock cars have met spectacular ends at the Motorplex. Who can forget Bruce Allen and Kenny Koretsky? Not us.
Lizzy Musi suffered a big crash at the track while at the PDRA race just a couple days back and it is reminiscent of virtually all the pro stock wreckage we have seen there over the years and being that her 2015 Dart pro mod is like a muscled up pro stocker, you understand). When watching the video, you will Lizzy make a stout eighth mile pass and at the top end of said pass, the car drifts right, gets a tire out of the groove, beings to rotate and then Lizzy is nothing more than a passenger.
Ron Muenks was the driver in the other land and Lizzy’s brand new Dart came across the track and tagged him but he did not get into the wall. Instead he was able to proceed ahead and get away from the calamity as it was happening. As bad as this was it could have ben WAY worse and the modern construction methods of the cars protected both drivers and allowed everyone to leave under their own power.
Are they going to fix it and be at the next race? We have to guess that they are but we have not read any definitive word on that yet. We’re glad to hear that Lizzy and Ron are both OK.
Curious if Pat is going keep Lizzie driving the car? After all it is his daughter. I’m sure she is a good driver, just sucks to see something like that happen.
