Pro Mod And Doorslammer Action From Roxboro Motorsports Park – Superchargers And Killer Paint Everywhere

(Words and Photos by Benoit Pigeon) – There are few things that make us smile wider than learning of the sale of a drag strip and how it was revitalized under new ownership. Such seems to be the case with Roxboro Motorsports Park in North Carolina. See, North Carolina is a rich place for Pro Mod and 1/8-mile racing. This past winter the track at Roxboro changed ownership and was re-named Roxboro Motorsports Park.

Investments and improvements to the property have already been made. Most importantly to the racers, the starting line was moved up to clean up how cars pull onto the track  and the surface was smoothed out using diamond-grinding equipment. Next on the list of priorities will be the new concrete walls. Regular racing schedule started on Easter and the fastest series is the B.A.D.

This is a monthly series and 13 cars showed for the July event coming from Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Nitrous, pro chargers, turbo and blowers are allowed and all were actually competing. Due to rain, the finals could not be run. Other than Pro Mod and regional racing, this track also hosts Gassers events. In fact, Jim Oddy’s Junkyard Dog Willys was there on Saturday making exhibition runs and the gasser was running under five seconds in the eighth.
