(We love great driving “saves” around here and the best save we saw in 2014 came from Rockingham Dragway and featured the legendary driving skills of Quain Stott. A Champion pro mod racer and the leader of the Southern Gassers proved his chops in the most wild way possible by gathering up his gasser when it was headed for certain destruction. This IS the greatest save of 2014.)

Quain Stott’s Southeast Gassers have graced the pages of BangShift a bunch recently. Why? Well the group has been running all over the place as of late and we have had guys shooting photos and following the action. Recently the group was racing in Rockingham, North Carolina at the PDRA race and during gasser eliminations, Stott was facing off with another Stott, Donovan when his Willy pulled a huge double wheelie, landed and decided it wanted to run north to south on an east to west track. Stott then sprung into action and executed one of the greatest gasser saves we have ever seen with sheer skill and speedy reflexes. This video is amazing.

We’re not sure too many guys could pull this move off without barrel rolling the car down the track and the fact that he was able to get it straightened out without forcing the car into some sort of tank slapper and smashing the wall. When you see the in-car portion of the video you’ll freak when you see how quickly Stott is able to saw the wheel one way to the next to get the car straightened out, especially because of the old school driving position, etc. This is the work of a guy who has been wheeling pro mod cars and other nasty ‘slammers for most of his life!

Quain Stott had long ago earned our respect as one of the great drivers in the drag racing game for the majority of his career but this is some stuff that seals it forever. The car was never out of control even when it was completely sideways at speed on the track. This is truly awesome stuff and proof that drag racers are drivers, too!
