BangShifter John Mac turned us on to what has to be the nuttiest thing built in Canada in the last two decades. From what we can gather, the crew at Turbo Dynamics Canada has taken a stock car chassis and bolted turbocharged GM 3800 V6 engines in the front and the back. Making about 650hp a piece, you are looking at an all wheel drive car that weights virtually nothing and can run low 8s, (sevens soon) in the quarter mile at over 160mph. The videos below show the car running the big numbers at Napierville Dragway and the second video shows the car in “test” mode on the street. The in and out of car videos are awesome because they show how beastly this thing becomes when the turbos spool and the engines are making maximum power. The best news is that when the 3800s expire they can be replaced for virtually nothing. Junkyards practically pay YOU to haul those things away.
In looking over the evolution of the project through the Turbo Dynamics videos, it seems that the machine started out as a twin engine Pontiac Grand Prix of the 1990s variety and then the guys got hold of a stock car that they have since plugged the engines into. In reading some of the comments, the chassis will eventually wear a body and look more like a finished car, but we kind of love the fact that it is sitting there as a rolling chassis at this point. Seeing a guy run into the 8s with a helmet, no fire suit, and no gloves is kind of creepy, especially when there is no wind shield or anything to keep the fire from bathing the driver if that front engine expired at 160. Adding that stuff would be the only thing we’d add to this program, just enough to keep the driver from becoming a crispy critter in the event of a problem. Call us wussies if you want but fire is scary stuff.
Anyway, watch both videos and you will get the full appreciation for this wild build. We can’t wait to continuing following it here on BangShift. Good luck boys!
