We are gearing up to do some really cool stuff with our friend Fred Simmons at SMG Motoring in the coming weeks. You’ll remember SMG as the shop we last dyno tested Buford T Justice before ripping the engine out for its winter rebuild. Fred keeps busy with all sorts of work at his shop from engine building to dyno tuning and parts installation. Recently he did an entire ProCharger kit on a C7 Corvette that we’ll be covering sooner rather than later but today we have some eargasm worthy dyno video to show you and it stars a street car with enough power to scare the daylights out of ANYONE.
The beautiful red Factory Five Type 65 coupe you see below was built by Littlefield Customs and it is packing a very pissed off 416ci LS stroker that is topped by a 4.0L Whipple blower. It also wears side pipes, otherwise known as gearhead trumpets because when you hear the pure glory that comes out of them during this pull you will do the same thing we did. Rewind the tape, crank the volume, and watch it again!
The car made 656hp and 570.67 lb/ft of torque at the wheels after the tuning was handled on this day. Now, you’ll note that Fred has a winter cap on while this testing is being done and that is because it is winter and he’s in Massachusetts. The cool, dense air certainly couldn’t have hurt the power numbers, right?
On a personal note, I LOVE the Factory Five Type 65 coupe. Several years ago I had the opportunity to drive one at an ECTA meet when the organization was still racing in Maxton, North Carolina. The one I drove had a stroker small block Ford engine in it and made about half the power this one makes and it was riotous. I literally cannot imagine what it would be like to turn the tires in this car on the street. That being said…I wonder if we could hook a ride in this monster and report our findings in the form of a feature to the BangShift faithful? Stay tuned, because we’re not above dropping to our knees and begging like a kid who wants a candy bar.

I was just talking to a friend about how cool it would be to build up a Type 65 with a pissed-off boosted 4-banger under the hood.
I always wondered what the final build quality was on these coupes.
It one this to make an open top kit car, it is entirely another level to make a kit coupe with weather proof doors, effective HVAC, wipers, etc.
Brian, do a feature on this car. Always liked these cars since an original is priced into the stratosphere!
