Maybe it was the sheer size of the truck. Maybe it is the fact that it can pull 45,000lbs with the rear winch, 20,000lbs with the front winch, and it can lift 20,000lbs with its rotating boom that swivels 270-degrees. Ok, we’re not going to lie, it was the custom added brush guard that has more steel in in then 10 modern cars combined. Previously you could drive this truck through a building and only mildly wound it. With the addition of the brush guard you can barrel it though half a city block without so much as breaking a turn signal lens. Sweet mother of mercy this thing is bad to the bone.
The M816 6×6 recovery vehicle was designed to help medium duty equipment get into and out of places that it likely should not have been to start with. With a curb weight (before sweet brush guard) of over 35,000lbs this thing is a heavyweight giant. Power comes from an 855ci Cummins NHC-250 diesel and it is over 29-feet long and just a shade under 10-feet tall.
This truck looks like it is in immaculate condition. It is fully operational with the exception of a winch cable needing to be replaced. We love the fact that it is rolling on old school NDT military tires and all 10 of them look pretty decent to us. Just check out the size of the hook hanging off the back of this thing!
The top speed is a breezy 52mph and it can travel nearly 600 miles on a full load of fuel and it is a big load because the truck was rated at 5mpg when it was built! The starting bid on the truck is $8,500 and while that is not cheap, we know a guy with a towing business who bought a similar rig to this and when it rolls he is able to bill crazy money. If you had a business of that nature this truck would pay for itself pretty quickly!

Believe it or not, I was responsible for sinking one of these DEEP into a marsh, and the LVS wrecker (that things Daddy) as well!!
I was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps and was in a HMMWV being dropped off at a patrol site. Of course, I did not want to get my feet wet in the puddles (before I had too) so I had them drive me further in. Then the MHMMWV went sideways in a marsh. I said “so sorry” and jumped out to join my patrol.
As I was leading my patrol through the area to our patrol route, I noticed the 5 ton wrecker stuck and the LVS wrecker behind it buried to the axles!
I just walked through as the unhappy faces stared at me!!!
