While dune buggies were built all over the country during the 1970s, the idea of ripping around southern California in one certainly appeals to the basic hot rodding soul that we all possess. While the majority of the buggies we have showed you over the years have a more road going slant, this one is all business. Built by a California guy in his garage decades ago, it was driven around town often and cruised with regularity. We’re guessing that it also saw some sand duty as well. It was pulled apart and left to sit for years and years before the guy who is selling it on eBay got hold of the machine and restored it to the condition that you see it in below. It is immaculate!
I’m kind of loving the yellow paint and white wheels, the skinnies up front and the big off road tires in the rear, the rake, and everything else about it. The engine is a 1776 VW that makes no power but then again this thing weighs nothing and has a new ProStreet short shift race transmission. I bet it boogies, at least up to highway speeds, right? The whip antennas are super neat as well. With regard to the interior, the original seat covers are still on the seats and while the seller seems to be embarrassed that he didn’t replace them, we don’t think that there is anything wrong with them. Hell, they are better than anything we currently own.
Maybe it is just how clean this thing is or maybe just because of the coolness that it drips but it is keeping me awake at night thinking about it. Am I out in left field? (Don’t answer that) Is this thing as cool as I think it is?
