This Fully Functional Gas Powered Miniature Caterpillar Sixty Tractor Is The Coolest Man-Toy Ever

The Caterpillar Sixty was one of the machines that really launched the then new Caterpillar company into national prominence inside the heavy equipment industry. Manufactured from 1919 through 1931, this sixty horsepower rated crawler was used on farms, to build roads, and although it took a while was finally used as a very successful bulldozer after cable operated blades were invented. The machine weighed in at some 20,500lbs and was the biggest unit that Caterpillar was making during this time period. The company sold nearly 20,000 of them in the 12 years that it was produced. Those were BIG numbers at that time in history.

The engine was an 18.5 liter four banger that burned gasoline. That’s 1,110ci for those of you playing at home. The track width of the Caterpillar 60 was 72″ and it had a sticker price of $4,000 which means that stuff back then was just as crazy expensive as it is these days when it comes to big equipment. A fun fact is that the transmission on these things held six gallons of 90-weight oil!

Enough of the history lesson and onto the real topic of this deal which is the insanely awesome miniature Caterpillar Sixty that you will see in the video below. This thing is so accurate that you can see the exposed valvetrain moving on the engine, it runs on gasoline, and it has turning brakes and all the works just like a big one. Modeled after an early production 60 (because of the lack of any sort of “styling” around the jutted out radiator, it is awesome to see it chuff around the yard of the owner who reaches down to add some steering input when needed. We’re not sure what this one weighs but we bet it is no light toy. With all the metal involved here and everything else, this little beast may be heck to lug around.

Now, if the guy really wants to take it to another level he needs to make an old Caterpillar Land Leveler to tow behind this baby. That would obviously ruin the lawn but we’d be into it so it all balances out, right? This miniature stuff continues to blow our mind. Combining the coolness of miniature engines with the greatness of this classic Caterpillar is a match made in BangShift heaven.
