This is one of those rigs that will split opinions right down the middle between love it and hate it. The 1976 Jeep CJ7 you see below (and above) has a 500hp 383ci Chevy small block stroker, street rubber on all four corners, a scoop, and a suspension modified to be good on the street and the dunes. A rock crawler it ain’t but a drag racer it could be. The owner believes the thing would run 11s in the quarter mile and when you see the cage and upgrades you can see that it wasn’t some slap dash job. This thing was built to GO and go hard!
We’ll go on the record right now in saying that we’re into the white steel wheels. We’d probably like the rest of it Jeep a little more in the style department if the hood was body colored and not flat black but that could be fixed pretty easy. The true glory of this thing would be with the soft top and doors off, like all Jeeps.
The owner did a great job with the eBay ad so we’re going to post the text here. Check out the rest of the photos and info by clicking the link below. Is this thing BangShifty? Is is it sacrilege? Would you cruise it on the street, at the drags, and on the dunes?
Here’s the text of the eBay ad for this 1976 Jeep CJ7 –
For sale 1976 Jeep CJ5 all original steel body and frame. The story is that it came from California, I would say that’s true as the frame is perfect all original stampings are clear as day. I have about 40k invested. I built it back in 2008 mainly as a street toy (which it has run flawless) and for the sand dunes( only went once back in 2008) I have run it a few times at the local 300ft track and I think the best time I ever had was a 5.01 on 31″ Boggers. I have put about 4000 miles on it since the build. This thing is a beast and the best part is it Launches, runs and drives like a dream. Not all over the road like most CJs. This is a great all around vehicle, with just the change of some tires your either tearing up the dunes on some paddles, cruising the streets on the Mickeys or racing at your local mud/dirt track on Boggers as I did!!! However I did never run the 1/4 but if the calculations are right it should be in the mid 11’s @ about 115-120mph!! Never wanted to risk it with this short wheelbase. There are way to many things to list so I know I’m missing some stuff so with that being said if you don’t see it just ask! You name it and it’s probably new or rebuilt.

All original steel- it is in great original condition considering its age but it is time for the body to get a make over as it has been painted a few times a long time ago long before I bought it. and it shows and there are blemishes that are starting to show up in the normal CJ spots . I was getting everything else done on it before I took it back apart and painted. The frame and the underside of the body tub have been cleaned up and painted. So the only thing left to freshen up is the exterior body parts and fresh coat of bedliner (Durabak) to the interior floor.

Sorry Brian…that’s a CJ-5…the doors were squared off on a 7. I owned a ’76 CJ-7,auto,with a 304. Had to sell it while commuting to night school… 🙁
Yup, thats a a CJ5 for sure. That’s a very clean and well built Jeep but $32K? Really? Best of luck with that pal!
Can someone explain to me why anyone would need line locks on both axles? I like this Jeep, but the seller should consider finishing the paint job if they expect that kind of coin out of it.
yep – the satin black hood and shiny bits made me wretch. For 32k , I expect the OFF sticker to be straight as well.
I’m not really polarized by it… seems like a lot of coin to garner a “Meh”
“…it should be in the mid 11’s @ about 115-120mph!! Never wanted to risk it with this short wheelbase.”
Yeah, no kidding. That thing would be pretty damn squirrelly. Kinda like the guy I saw with the mid-10 second first-gen Bronco with a built, nitrous’d 400M
Pretty cool. Not $32,000 cool, but cool.
Sweet! There’s a CJ5 out there running mid 10’s that doesn’t look any where near as well set up as this one. 150 shot and you have a contender. Just not for $32K.
The looks throw me, ditch the hood scoop, chrome grill and bumper. The Dana 30 is not long for life, time for at least a 44.
Has everyone forgot the AMC 360? Built right it makes great power…and it belongs in an AMC product.
Who makes the hood scoop and where did you purchase it?
