Can You Identify This Weird Old Engine We Found St Gates Salvage? We Couldn’t!

One of the more interesting things that Fitzgerald and I stumbled on (literally) at Gates Salvage was a car that wasn’t much of a left of car at all. Basically a set of frame rails, a cowl, a dash, and this inline six with the interesting F-head style arrangement. In an F-head engine the intake valve is operated by a pushrod and a rocker arm and the exhaust valve is operated by the cam directly and (on the exhaust side) is just like a flathead.

The valve cover on this thing was a super thick aluminum casting that was impressive as all get out. The oil pan and physical base of the engine is aluminum as well. It is an impressive piece and it seems like the car it was in had to have been big bucks judging by the intricate of nature of the dash and how nicely some of the details on it are.

We’re guessing someone out there will see this and know what it is in 10-seconds but we didn’t so we’re looking for your help! What is this weird old engine?

Scroll down to see this weird old engine and tell us what the heck it is!
