Ebay Find: This Turbocharged Big-Block Dodge A100 Is The Fine Line Between Sleeper And Insanity

Ebay Find: This Turbocharged Big-Block Dodge A100 Is The Fine Line Between Sleeper And Insanity

Seeing a Dodge A100 isn’t a common event outside of a car show. If you do, you might see a dead stocker puttering along somewhere in the Southwest, or maybe someone held onto their ’70s custom for quite some time. In fact, if you search for an A100 on eBay right now, there’s five listed. One is a pretty cool surf-wagon, two are stockers, one is a high-roof custom and one is a Travco motorhome conversion. Unless you are a van enthusiast, none of them are something to get worked up about. If you search around a little more, however, you will find this beast. This rare smooth-side 1969 Dodge A100 ended up under the “other” category, and it’s a beauty. Restored a couple of years ago, the body was cleaned up, some rust issues were fixed and the van was painted in a Porsche green. Outside, you begin to notice some subtle clues: the widened rear wheels. The intercooler hiding just below the front bumper. Wait, what?

You read that right. This van is packing a turbocharged 400ci Mopar big block, operated by a four-speed on the column with a custom cable shifter for shorter throws. Power goes out to a 3.23-equipped 8.75″ rear axle. Inside, it’s mostly stock save for a custom gauge panel and an excellent sound system.

From the ad:

  • Condition:

I built this van to a restomod look and finished it 2,5 years ago. All the rust was properly removed, new panels welded in, sanded and primed prior to paint. Both exterior colors are standard Porsche. Car has no dents or dings or scratches and it is very straight. Everything works very well. Original speedometer showed slightly under 52.000 miles and current Autometer speedo now reads little less than 4800 miles.

This van is a blast to drive and can be driven anywhere. It is many things in one package. Engine has been moved back slightly for weight distribution and clearance in order to be more of a mid-engined car without hacking any of the original sheetmetal. Everything is neatly packed inside so nobody on the street will have a clue until they hear the turbo whine and twin blow off valves making noise when you shift up. If you want to differ from the rest of the crowd then this van is one way to do it. Or you could put your company or shop logo on it and  use it to promote your business.

There’s just one teensy problem with this van: it’s in Finland. Would it be worth it to you to have it imported back to the U.S.? Would any of our European/Scandanavian readers be interested? Take a look at the video of this thing in motion and you tell us…

After watching that video, I want it. Although banging gears with the column shift has to be interesting.

Turns out some Finnish friends of mine sold their old house to this seller, but now he’s moving abroad & is selling up everything! She (my friend) asked me if I was interested but as you have already said & as I said to her, shipping costs would prohibit any but the most determined!! Small world though, isn’t it?
