Cool Build: The Madmen At Autofab Race Cars Are Building An LS1 Prius!

Cool Build: The Madmen At Autofab Race Cars Are Building An LS1 Prius!

You knew it was bound to happen eventually: Someone is finally swapping an LS1 into a Prius.

I’ve heard rumors of such mythical creatures before, including a Prius that had a LS7 transplanted into it (Which sadly turned out to be a fake), but this is the first that I’ve seen actual progress photos of, courtesy of Autofab Race Cars Inc in Maryland.

Yes, Priuses (Prii?) are lame, but everything is cooler with a V8, and just think of the surprised looks you’d get every time you fired this thing up. If it were mine I’d try to make it as stealth as possible by running stock manifolds, catalytic converters, and quiet mufflers to better sneak up on a pony car or two, but I’m a bit of a sick puppy in that regard.

My best guess is that the Prius will see more straight-line duty than anything else when all said and done, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

Other than these images posted to their Facebook page and the brief description below I don’t yet have many details on the build, but you can bet that I’m more than a little excited to see that the car is from the Boston area and is (hopefully) making its way back up here once completed so that I can check it out in person.

No sense blabbing any longer, I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

Feel free to check out Autofab Racecar’s Facebook page HERE, and keep scrolling down for photos of this LS1 Prius!

Big Thanks to fellow BangShift contributor Charles Wickam for giving me the head’s up on this one. Thanks buddy!

[box_light]Rick White’s LS1 Prius Project – Yep, we are putting an LS1 in a Prius and of course converting it to rear wheel drive. 4L60E automatic transmission. He wants to keep it stock appearing down to the factory wheels. Rick hauled this car all the way down to us from Boston for the conversion.[/box_light]

So, what do you think? 100% BangShift approved or not?

yeah, I like the quiet sleeper idea….muffled down, tinted windows so you can’t see the roll cage that this thing is gonna need, so it don’t self-destruct itself!

Well that’s a Prius that I could actually dri… no nevermind, I could never drive a Prius.

Although, since they are designed to be as aerodynamically efficient for mileage, I wonder what one of them would do on the Salt?

Somebody already tried this idea with a Honda Insight and a hellaciously powerful mill under the hood. The video carnage of things going very very badly can be found here on bangshift somewhere…

I think the fuel efficiency designs are great at being slippery at speeds below 90, but not so great at generating the stability and downforce as you go faster. Buyer beware lol…

Would love to see that thing driving solo in the car pool lanes of CA. with one of those prized yellow bumper stickers…..locals know what it is.

I love sleepers. To the LS haters, I don’t care what V-8 is used, it should have been done a long time ago.

I don’t know if they’re ruining the car or the engine. Neither are worth the match it’d take to burn them.

I love the LS but it was a poor choice. A twin turbo Diesel would have been better. blowing gobs of black smoke in the California HOV lane!

I hate prius’s (and all hybrids, really), but if you’re going to have one- a v8 makes it less awful

Agreed with the other comments though about seeing a diesel in the carpool lane here in so cal. Maybe have a good ol fashioned smokestack on it and really throw them off…
