Cool or Not – You Decide: A Worked Over 1957 Ford Big Job Truck

Cool or Not – You Decide: A Worked Over 1957 Ford Big Job Truck

As Chad and I were cruising the 2011 SEMA show we zapped a bunch of photos of cars and trucks that left us wondering if the BangShift masses would dig or reject. So in that spirit we bring you the first in the series. This large by huge 1957 Ford Big Job truck was sitting right outside of the central hall front entrance. Tens of thousands of people walked by it during the week.

The big truck is not exactly what it seems, though. The body, which has been highly modified with the addition of the second row of seats and doors, the pickup bed, big dually flares and smoothes body lines is draped over a late model one ton Chevy truck chassis. Power comes from a Duramax diesel. It is obviously sitting on airbags and wears humongous wheels on all the corners.

So, scroll down to see the photos and you tell us…Is this truck cool or not?

I think the truck is cool, overall. However, what is the deal with these gargantuan rims these days??? That is the only thing on the truck I don’t like!

    Nope.

I love the thing from the back of the cab foreward minus the wheels. I hate when people put a modern or modern esque fleetside box on a classic pickup it always looks bad. As for the diesel why not a cummins or an IH mill and a Ford chassi? Both engines were offered in Fords, Cummins B series in the mid-range stuff.

Overall cool, however, fail on wheels and chassis choice. I think it would be better with a Ford chassis/powertrain, some old commercial wheels a-la goliath, even chromed, and come california mirrors would be a major improvement

The wheels are horrible, the modern bed could have been done better. Lots of well done work there over all. I hate big wheels on anything.

Hate the wheels and tires. Why can’t builders realize this trend needs to go away? Would be better with stock width front fenders and duals tucked inside bed sides. Looks like fantastic workmanship!

It won’t, not with late model F350’s or Ram 3500’s, not with 80’s C30’s, and certainly not with a 50’s Ford. If it’s a truck, let it be a truck. The Duramax is fine, even some paint, but 26’s and rubber binders make this think useless. Now if he had done 16″ alloys and installed a 5th wheel or maybe a tow boom…

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. While I am not a fan of monster wheels and rubber band tires, the overall look is well executed and fairly cohesive.

I would prefer a wheel choice a bit smaller (20’s, maybe, with a bit more sidewall) since this is, after all, a truck. The mirrors appear to be an after-thought instead of an integral part of the overall design. Too bad there are no rear 3/4 views to assess the balance of the design. I like that the original – or at least original-appearing – door handles were utilized instead of flush-mount, which would have killed the look.

Thanks for asking for our opinion, however stilted it may be!

Forgot to mention that some sort of a visor should have been used, even a vestigial design. It would have gone a long way toward pulling everything together.
