Craigslist Find: A Chrysler Hemi Powered 1956 Airport Tug – Straight Pipes and Slicks!

BangShift forum member BigBlockMopar is a dyed in the wool Chrysler devotee. He lives over in Europe and despite the high fuel costs he cruises his big bruiser Mopars constantly when the weather agrees. Hell, the dude drives an old slant sixer Dart every day. It was he who tipped us off to the greatness you see below, a 1956 airport tug that was factory equipped with a hemi. Sure, it is an industrial Hemi that probably isn’t killing it in the horsepower department, but it is still an old school Hemi. The transmission is a three speed manual, most likely sourced from a one ton truck of the era. The tug has been slightly modified with straight pipe exaust stacks and drag slicks on the back. These things were done because the tug has been used as a novelty/parade vehicle for the last 15 years in California. We’d put a line lock in it, douse those slicks in ATF and get that old hemi to stretch its legs burnout style!

The seller is asking $2500 for the rig and if it were closer and we had the money, we’d totally buy it. What would be we do with it? Even we can’t answer that question, but the thing would get headers, the hemi would get rebuilt, and we’d have the fastest friggin’ airport tug in the world.
