Yeah, yeah, yeah. We know that these things are basically two V6 engines hitched together (in a common block) and that they are lazy and aren’t really all that hot rod-able. Used in firetrucks, big rigs, to run pumps, and other mundane applications, these behemoth engines made 275hp and 630 lb/ft at about 2,000 RPM when new and we think that they’re all kinds of neat. Sure, sticking one in a car or old truck wouldn’t be for creating some sort of insane running hot rod, but shoehorning one into a light enough car would result in something that should burn tires for miles if setup right. It will also look like nothing that anyone has ever seen before.
These engines, as best we know, were made between 1960-1965 by GMC and were advertised at the time to be good for “200,000 miles between overhauls!” in ads. Total production run was about 5,000 units and we have to think that lots of those were run until they barfed parts and were scrapped so if any more than 1/3 of the original production run is around, we’d be shocked. That makes finding five of these suckers in intact condition pretty amazing. It also makes the asking price pretty high. This seller is looking for $20,000 for everything he has. Is that reasonable? Who the hell knows?! It would seem to us that the dude at ThunderV12 could be a prime candidate to scoop these up and use them as cores to build the warmed up version of these engines that he builds.
These engines are really neat despite their lack of crazy, fire breathing power. If we had the dough, we’d stick one of these in a build before a snotted up small block just because it would be do damned different! Hiding the thing under a hood and giving people only the weird exhaust note to figure out what it was would be eternally entertaining.

I think the price is way out there. I know where two runners are for $500 a piece. They spent their life running huge water pumps, on natural gas.
i sure like to have one,all done up and lookin good, just as a conversation piece sitting on an engine stand, you can be dam well sure it trumps any small chevy or ford, don’t matter how big there turbo is!!
Good luck with that price as I have seen enough of em in Heavy Scrap Yards for a few hundred bucks a pop
My brother in law had a couple of these things running his irrigation system for about 10 years.
He’d of let ya have them for about $75 a piece after he was done with them.
my dad had one of these in a gmc dump truck
I’d rather have one of these.

Rolls Royce Meteor, basically a Merlin without the supercharger, for use in tanks. I think it’s 1650 cubic inches. Seen one in an old pre-war Bentley that was just beautifully done.
would be killer in a t-bucket.
