When Wyotech’s parent company, Corinthian Colleges folded up like a wet paper towel, thousands and thousands of students were put out of school as the campuses in Long Beach and Fremont closed abruptly. Since the announcement of the campuses being closed in April, people have been wondering what was going to happen to all of the equipment, parts, cars, and tools that lived in those buildings. The answer actually started yesterday with the beginning of a huge auction to get rid of everything and raise as much money as possible to pay off creditors. As best we can tell, a tip from Chuy Nava led us to the page featuring the auction of the assets houses in the Long Beach, California campus of Wyotech.
This is like a dealer liquidation auction on steroids. There’s a massive amount of equipment, cars, trucks, tools, office supplies, engines, stands, transmissions, diagnostics, tool boxes, etc. We love the fact that the listings for the engine stands mention that they come with the engines on them! More work and hassle to break them up so it makes sense. We wonder how many of these sad sack engines have been torn down and slammed back together by the students over the years. The listing for “assorted transmissions” is shown above and we are not even scratching the surface.
Our understanding is that not all of the Wyotech campuses across the country closed down but the California ones were victimized when the company basically transferred all of its assets and holdings to a non-profit company to operate going forward. The value of the things being sold here at the auction when they were new had to have summed up to some sort of a massive number. The value of them now? What the high bidder is willing to throw down.

Actually I picked up a few items including a brake fluid exchanger for 10% of what a new one costs. That 18% surcharge doesn’t bother me a bit. Got a great deal on a couple of steel benches and have already sold off the brake rotors & calipers.
