Great Chase: A Pymouth Road Runner Jumps, Smashes, Rolls, and Weakly Explodes Chasing A Bad Guy!

We’d never heard of the 1977 B-movie called Bare Knuckles before watching this bitchin’ chase scene. The movie is a campy deal that follows the exploits of a bounty hunter as he tries to chase down a serial killer who murders women using kung-fu moves. While the movie is a very low budget affair (we actually had to make sure it wasn’t a porn flick) the chase scene is great and transcends its lack of production value with good old fashioned automotive violence.

The lead character Zachary Kane drives a pretty well worn Plymouth Road Runner. We catch up with him hot on the heels of the bad guy who is riding a motorcycle and wearing a mask. This Road Runner takes some serious freaking abuse before dying a rather unimpressive death. To think that when this movie was made that car was less than 10 years old and was basically a cast off that could have been bought for pennies on the dollar makes us both laugh and cringe. By the time these guys were done with it, scrap value was the best you’d do with it.

From what we have read, this movie was shot without the use of one permit from the city to do any of this stuff. We love that idea, especially when the chase leads down into the concrete LA River culvert that has been a part of so many movie chases and scenes. It takes some balls to do this stuff and get away with it!
