Joe Amato is one of the most successful top fuel racers in NHRA history with more than 50 national event wins and five championships  over the course of a career that spanned a couple of decades as a driver and an owner. Most people know that Amato was one one of the principle’s in the massive Keystone Automotive company which remains as one of the largest auto parts suppliers in the country. Although he sold out of that business in 1998, Amato has continued his run of business success with a real estate empire. We’re to telling you this to impress you but rather because it sets the stage for the awesome interview you will see below. The interview talks little about Amato’s drag racing career and mostly about his history in the world of business and how he came from selling produce in alley ways to running a chain of auto parts stores by the time he was 18 and the parlaying that into running a legitimate parts empire with Keystone.

In the interview Amato coms off as a a great self-made guy who clearly lives a nice life now. He’s got some great toys, cool places to live, and he travels a lot. By the sounds of his story, he earned every penny and did it all the old fashioned way, with his own smarts, gumption, and hard work. We LOVE these stories, especially when they are told by guys who had success in racing. Amato was a high school drop out who managed to become a business magnate living by the rules instilled into him by a hard working and street smart dad. Totally flipping awesome.
