We’ve got to thank Bret Kepner for the tip off on this video which shows some guys having fun at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas with their remote controlled cars. See, the event didn’t exactly turn out to have a killer car count and to make things more interesting for themselves as the same group of cars was basically circle tracking down the course in the afternoon, a couple of the guys decided to bust out their remote controlled cars and “race” them against the full sized cars. Because of the track’s layout, they could line up and run down the return road, right next to the track that the actual cars were racing down. Who knows if the drivers even had a clue about this going on but it is did and it is pretty enlightening to watch.
There are no elapsed times shown on the video but watching the little cars in relation to the full size ones is impressive as hell because the little RC machines are mightily quick and leave many of the competitors in the proverbial dust, especially right out of the hole. The cars are Traxxas models with one being a truck and the other being the fearsome Revo, which is a car you can buy that will achieve a top speed of 100 mph in virtually “out of the box” setup spec. At about :30 into this video the RC driver has to perform a split second pedal job that would have left any real car with the front end smashed out but the RC car keeps right on trucking like nothing happened.
We’ve sat through plenty of small car count, boring afternoons at the strip. If racing RC cars against full sized car is wrong, we don’t want to be right. This looks like a fun diversion and there was no risk to anyone or the cars they were driving. We want a Revo and then we want in!
