(Photos by Bryan McTaggart/Charles Wickam) – As weird as it sounds because we are the 100% opposite of the park and polish mentality of hot rodding, we’re never more mentally engaged and just plain star struck as we are when spending some “quality time” with the loads and loads of historic cars on the grounds at the Holley National Hot Rod Reunion. See, the thing is that these cars are so compelling to be around, we just can’t help ourselves. The majority of the machines are originals that have either been restored or that still wear the battle scars of a rough racing life. Sure, some of them are dead nuts recreations and we have no problem with them either.

Perhaps the main reason we’re so attracted to these cars is because someone, somewhere was so moved or impacted by them at one point that they either searched the Earth to find the original or went through the expensive, exhausting, and sometimes draining pursuit of recreating the vehicle, sometimes from nothing more than a couple of old photos. Some have argued that Wally Parks’ original vision of drag racing with the “cars being the stars” is wrong but in many cases it is right. The men behind the wheel controls of these machines were all well known during their respective eras but the cars have spanned the test of time and we love nothing more than to oogle them up close.
