PRI 2011: LUNATI ROLLS OUT NEW ROCKERS, CAMS, AND CRANKS

PRI 2011: LUNATI ROLLS OUT NEW ROCKERS, CAMS, AND CRANKS

Lunati is one of the high performance aftermarket’s true feel good stories. Things were looking grim for the brand a few years ago but they have boot strapped themselves back to great health by rolling out well built products that perform as advertised. This year the guys at Lunati had new stuff to show us when we stopped by and it is obvious that they’ve been working their collective asses off.

Several products caught our eye, the first being this new line of steel roller tipped rocker arms that will soon be available from the company. These are a clean sheet design and by their looks and our discussions with the guys in the booth, they are designed to take whatever abuse you can throw at them. They are chubby little fellows that look to be very strong.

Of course we couldn’t help but notice the tiny little cams that were sitting on the table. These were a couple of examples of Lunati’s new line of Harley Davidson camshafts. They are now carrying cams for twin cam engines from 1999 to present as well as the Evolution engines. The Lunati reps told us that these cams have been met with a warm reception from the Harley community and they really help to wake up the company’s iconic V-Twin motors.

Next up we inquired about the newly designed connecting rod we saw hanging out on the table. As it turns out this is one of Lunati’s Pro Series rods. These babies are designed with large displacement racing blocks in mind and measure out to be 6.3″ long. Lunati says that circle track racing is a perfect application for these rods specifically becuse the added length means that crank counterweights do not need to be modified and rebalanced. Being longer the rods also create a better stroke to rod ratio to reduce side load and you can also maintain the right compression height for your pistons as well. These are American made, 4340 steel rods that have been extensively tested by Lunati.

Finally we wandered over to the nice looking crank we saw and inquired about it. This is a 4303 forged Pro Series crank. They can handle 1,000hp, can be used in applications up to 500ci and are available in a wide range of strokes from 4.25″ through 4.625″. Lunati can also produce custom cranks for customers looking for 2.2″ BBC pin size or an LS7 style long snout.
