(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – The Boonesborough Boogie Nationals is hosted by the Southern Knights of Central Kentucky car club and takes place at Ft. Boonesborough State Park near Richmond, KY. To say the area has history is an understatement. Located on the banks of the Kentucky River, the campground next to the park is where the original fort stood and the re-created settlement is just a short walk up the hill. Not too far away is Richmond, KY which was where the most decisive confederate victory of the Civil War concluded. Its one of the most-beautiful places to hold a show that benefits multiple charities, but caters mainly to the needs of children. Though the weather threatened, many made the trek anyway and were rewarded with a stream of cars rolling in throughout both days. The problem for someone like me, who wants to see everything, is that anytime we see or hear something moving its cause for investigation.
This year we saw a bunch of vehicles we hadn’t seen at shows across the state so the camera was working hard at draining the batteries. I took nearly 600 photos of which I’ll likely only use about half. This gallery is a collection of trucks, tractors, and stuff that likely doesn’t fit into other groups. Some highlights:
A cab-over Ford with a stake bed rolls in. When was the last time you saw one of those…?
70s Chevy C10 fleet-side that is one of the finest examples I’ve ever seen and one of the cleanest builds there.
A blown, black Chevy truck that appeared completely subtle until the hood was opened.
Gorgeous blue Phat Ford with the right stance, paint, and just enough polish to catch the eye.
Lots of old Chevys on S10 chassis. Might be expedient and sometimes can look great, but it seems a bit overdone now and too many trucks are getting hacked up to make it happen. ’47-’54 seem to get this treatment the most. I’d have the same gripe if everyone was making them into ‘gassers’ too. I’m not into fads. Lately I’ve actually started looking for these that actually have at least a portion of the original frame. Honestly I can’t remember the last time I saw one with a Nova subframe shoved into the frame rails and boxed in place. My age is showing….isn’t it…? Enjoy.
