The recently held “Outlaw Stree Car Reunion” in Memphis, Tennessee was a huge success. The race drew a ton of spectators, it drew hundreds of race cars, and it saw amazing performances like those that we have already showcased on BangShift, and people will be talking about it for years. Outside of the mind blowing performances in weather that could only be described as arctic, there was one very scary moment and that moment is captured in this video. What you are going to see is Mike Brown (driving the blue ERL Performance Firebird) taking on Heath Littrell (driving the multi-colored Nova) and what happened to them at the top end of the track. Brown sure gets the worst of this one but it is scary all the way around because it looks like Littrell will at first be miraculously spared any injury or damage here but such is not the case.
Just past the eighth mile finish line, Brown’s car washes out from under him and heads sharply across the track to the right. It zips directly across the bow of Littrell’s Nova before contacting the wall HARD. That impact launched the car across the track in front of Littrell a second time and when that happens, the Nova has nowhere to go and it also gets into the wall. Watching the aftermath video, both cars are torn up pretty badly. You can see the supercharged hemi exposed in Littrell’s Nova and you’ll watch Brown’s hulk of a car being dragged up on a ramp truck.
These cars are some of the most electrifying to watch in drag racing today and the fact is that people love them because they are so unpredictable and fast. No one wants to see this happen but everyone certainly knows that it is a possibility, the drivers included. Both men were banged up but will be OK in the end. Yes, there is a lot of bent steel, broken fiberglass, and twisted aluminum t0 fix but both men will live to see another day at the races and that is the bottom line.
