NHRA Houston Pro Mod Action Photos – Some Of The Nation’s Best Getting After It At The O’Reily Spring Nationals

(Photos by Charles Wickam) – It was another great weekend of J&A Services Pro Mod action at the 2015 NHRA O’Reily Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas. Pro Modified continues to be a bright spot for the NHRA with 28 cars attempting to battle into a 16 car field. This year’s field was a fully five second affair despite hot, sticky weather that was certainly not ideal for making big horsepower. The bump spot ended up being in the high 5.90s and was a little more than a hundredth quicker than last season’s.

The nitrous cars faired well in qualifying and Billy Glidden slugged his way to a final round against Don Walsh in the Precision Turbo and Engine Camaro but it would be Walsh who would hoist the Wally at the end of the weekend and claim victory over the stout field. He and the Precision Turbo crew had a banner weekend, qualifying number one and ultimately completing the job in the final round. They actually ended eliminations with a flurry as Walsh’s Camaro pulled the front wheels off the ground at the 400′ mark and he was able to gently set it back down and out muscle Glidden who rattled the tires early and was not there at the top end.

This was the second race in the 10-race 2015 J&A Services Pro Mod series and the next time these boosted, blown, and nitrous injected machines will meet is in Atlanta just a couple of weeks down the road. We’ll be there and you should be as well. For now, check out the great Charles Wickam photos that capture these cars in all of their tire smoking, overgrown Hot Wheels glory.
