Watch This Hellcat Challenger Literally Destroy Its Brakes And A Set Of Tires At The MSD Desert Dust Up Burnout Contest

While I was in Texas messing around with the NHRA and Chad was in Las Vegas filming an OUSCI television show, the guys at MSD Performance were hosting their first ever Desert Dust-Up. This was a drag race, a car show, a burnout contest, and more at the El Paso Motorplex on the opposite end of Texas as I was on. The burnout contest produced some notable video and we have it below. Why? Firstly because a guy in a Challenger Hellcat entered and those are rare at this point and secondly because that same guy decided he was going all in and essentially did a brake stand long enough to cause the rotors to achieve molten hotness level. Don’t believe us? Look at the photo above!

When we first press play to see this video we thought, “Oh, cool someone already put a line lock in their Hellcat!” It didn’t take long to see that no, there was no line lock and it was just a good old fashioned brake stand where the torque of the car is overcoming the force of the brake pads clamped on the rotor. The really neat thing here is when you start to consider the heat generated by this exercise. Those are big, healthy brakes on that car and they were the color of the laval shooting out of the volcano in Chile.

The car seems to hit the speed limiter or something coming up through the gears and the wheel speed drops but then the driver settles into a high gear and is able to generate some terrific wheel speed. That is when the brakes go code red and that is when burnout contest officials start walking into the cloud to tell the guy that he was done. It looks like it turns into a full blown fire for a minute before the video cuts off.

We love the fact that the dude is using his Hellcat and it not afraid to put the wood to it but dude, a line lock would have been better…wayyy better!

I realize it’s his car and can do what he wants with it, but…. This Hellcat will be wrapped around a tree soon enough with the way he is taking of it. Sad.

Rich and stupid. Rich enough for a Hellcat. Stupid enough to enter a burnout contest without spending $100 on a line lock.

the hell was that??? yeh he did a burnout, but why would you just sit there? Try that on an Aussie burnout pad and you’d get laughed at….I know you guys have insurance issues but jeez why would you bother?
