If we had a “this dude is incredibly lucky to be alive” category of videos on BangShift, this one would be in it. Long story short, the driver of this Shelby Cobra replica experienced a true nightmare scenario when there was a mechanical failure (which we suspect was in the rear of the car) and it pitched sideways and rolled at more than 130mph. Did we mention the only “roll bar” on the car is the little chrome hoop that sits behind the driver’s head?!
It sucks to see this car get destroyed but it is pretty miraculous that the driver lives to tell the tale because as you can see in the slow motion version of the video, he is flopping around inside the car like a fish while it is going into death rolls. It is tough to tell if he is wearing arm restraints, as it looks like his arms are moving freely. He does seem to grab a strong hold of the wheel mid wreck.
Finally, how about the indestructibility of cameras these days?! Does anyone else remember the days when network in-car cameras would frag at a whiff of impact? This thing survives rolling, dust, debris, and insane g-forces and never skips a beat! As much as a full cage “wrecks” the look of an old open car like a Cobra, the benefits are clearly illustrated after watching this. It does seem that this guy appreciates the fact that he is still among the living and is not laughing the incident off. After the whole scene settled, we’re guessing that the dude must have had a moment where the potentially grave consequences of this wreck hit him upside the head like a pallet of bricks. Wild stuff and we’re glad he is OK!
holy crap where to start helmet too big, belts not tight, way wrong angle on the shoulder straps, no arm restraints on an open cockpit and no hans or even neck brace. go buy a lotto ticket and take up golfing.
“What was that, something didn’t feel right”. So let’s stay on the gas. Brilliant. Some people should stick with a Prius.
Note to self, do not use BMW 3 series IRS in high horsepower high G situations
