It was announced yesterday that a New Jersey man has been granted a patent on a “Supercharger Control System.” This control system is essentially an on/off switch for a supercharger that allows the pulley driving it to free wheel when the driver is not looking for boost.
Anyone thinking Mad Max?
You can read the whole patent application here, but it sounds to us a lot like an air conditioning compressor clutch.Maybe that’s what the inventor Billy Machner is modeling this after.
He claims that this invention will lessen the “wear and tear” on the crankshaft, which seems counter intuitive to us considering the snout is going to get some shock load if the switch is thrown to engage the blower at high rpm.
Will it work? Or is it a well intentioned idea that is doomed to fail?
