Ron Hammel of 10,000RPM Dyno fame passed away in 2012. Hammel was a pioneer in the hot rod and drag racing world. His 10,oooRPM Speed Equipment company was the first outfit to sell nitrous kits to drag racers and hot rodders back in the 1960s, he was a life long friend and the first sponsor Dale Armstrong ever had, and from the 1980s to today he had one of and perhaps the only engine dyno that can hang on to an 8,000 horsepower Top Fuel engine. This dyno has been ground zero for some of the most important nitro engine development work in the history of the sport.
The dyno to end all dynos is for sale as we’re guessing that there isn’t anyone wanting to carry on the work that Hammel loved some much in California. The beast is being sold in complete working order and even comes with various headers to fit Hemi engines and others along with adapters. The controls, the stand, the frame that supports the whole works are part of the sale package. We’re guessing that someone named Force or Johnson or Schumacher will be in possession of this baby in pretty short order when word escapes that it is on the market. After all, the top self nitro teams already have machines to test their mags and dyno their blowers, plus the really big boys are CNC machining their own blower cases and heads. . How about having the ability to literally test different cam grinds, bore and stroke configurations, cylinder head designs, etc in house. That’s pretty much the ultimate advantage for teams these days.
