NASCAR to Tear Down Lowest Finishing Non-Wrecked Competitors

NASCAR has announced that they will begin tearing down the lowest finishing non-wrecked competitors at each race from here on out. This seems to be a move to force the so-called “start and park” teams to actually race for their dinner. The free lunch is over for those guys.

For those who don’t know, the “start and park” teams are those under-funded race teams that show up, qualify their car for the race, run a couple of laps, and roll of the track with a mystery problem and collect their money from NASCAR. They load up and head to the next race. By forcing these teams through the inspection process (which reportedly can cost teams up to $30K in rebuilding costs) they will force the “start and park” teams to race for any position that is not 43rd.

We’re actually going to side with NASCAR on this one because those teams are doing nothing but collecting money. They have no intention to run the whole race, they perform to a level just high enough to get into the field and then they drop out, often without providing any real reason why. We think NASCAR sees them as leeches and this is a move that will scare some away and force those left to put it to the wood and run their cars to finish in any position other than last.

We know that we’re twisted, but honestly, the next race we watch, we’re going to watch the fight at the back of the field closer than the one at the front. Talk about compelling TV!
