Celebrity Car Death Match: The A-Team Van VS The Fall Guy Truck! (W/video!)

By now you know all about Celebrity Car Death Match, our on going series that places two famous cars or trucks into the ring against each other and a winner is chosen based on your comments below the blog item. We’ve been rolling these things at you for a week now and they just keep getting tougher and tougher. Case in point? Today’s GMC on GMC crime. We’re talking Fall Guy VS A-Team duel to the death here, kids! But first a quick recap of yesterday’s action –

1951 Dodge M37 Wrecker driven by Jonathan Winters DEFEATS 1973 F-350 wrecker from the original Gone In 60 Seconds

We’re 100% sure that everyone is familiar with today’s fighters. In this corner we have the GMC Sierra driven by one Colt Seavers. While not performing high profile stunts on Hollywood blockbusters, Seavers was fighting crime, romancing bodacious babes, and absolutely mangling GMC trucks. Few vehicles outside of the General Lee (1-0 in death match combat so far) spent so much time airborne during their television careers as Colt’s faithful line of GMC trucks did. With chrome wheels, big off road tires, a chrome roll bar complete with cool lights, the brown on brown paint, and plenty of horsepower, this was the bitchin’-est truck of the 1980s. (Note: you cannot include the special mid engine trucks built for jumps in your decision making here, has to be a standard issue front engine truck!) Seavers was as cool as a cucumber and that’s why Heather Thomas would help him out on occasion. We’re pretty sure that, although unwritten into the script, those Seavers and “Jody Banks” were knockin’ the boots when not stopping crimes. How many guys in the 1980s built clones of this thing to emulate the fictional Seavers? We know two.

Normally when we start talking about old vans with no windows in the back, it is time to call the cops poste haste, but not today! Those windows would pose a potential weakness in this battle to the death against Col Seavers truck. Surely, if this were hand to hand combat the members of the A-team would overpower Seavers and have his truck destroyed, but that ain’t the way this game is played! Nope, while Face, Hannibal, and Murdock would all be assets, the man we really care about is one BA (Bad Attitude) Baracus, wearer of intense amount of precious metals and driver of the A-Team 1983 GMC Vandura. While neither of these vehicles have any outward weapons, they both were put through hellish conditions week after week on national television and always came out on top. Given the opportunity, BA would take the (admittedly) flimsy looking bull bar on the front of the fan and jam it straight up into Colt Seavers grill. Maybe he would try to hypnotize Seavers by using those sweet ass turbine wheels as some sort of distraction. Maybe he’d just use the crushing weight of his gold chains to plant the front tires for high speed cornering. How are we supposed to know?!

This is too painful for us. GMC on GMC death match? We’re not going to sleep for days.

WATCH THE VIDEOS BELOW, MAKE A DECISION AND TELL US WHO WOULD WIN THIS DEATH MATCH! IT IS YOUR CIVIC DUTY!

BA/ A-Team van all the way…………sure the truck jumps, but BA does burnouts! I pity the fool!

  2. The Outsider

I pity the fool who don’t vote for the Fall Guy truck . . .

The A-Team van “jumped the shark” in the episode where BA said “Nitrous . . . do it every time” (cribbing from a Billy Dee Williams Colt 45 ad ) . . . and the A-Team purportedly stole a happy gas bottle from a dentist’s office . . . the “bottle” was about the size of a Sneaky Pete . . . and BA made it work over and over by continually twisting it whenever they needed about a 300 shot . . . pure Hollywood hokum.

At least the Fall Guy truck didn’t insult our intelligence . . . and that dude drivin’ it was hitched to FARRAH!

The Fall Guy pickup (while on a better show) is just too plain Jane for me. I’d much rather rock the A-Team Van.

    I vote the Van.

Gotta go with the Fall Guy truck. Back when they used to really jump a vehicle for a stunt instead of CGI.

Side note, one of the recommended videos after the Fall Guy montage was of the Simon and Simon theme song. I nominate that song for best TV theme tunes.

A-team van. Can’t believe no one has brought a re-creation on the Power Tour yet.

The Fall guy truck was cool but man that thing bounces when it lands.

  6. Chuck

Fall Guy truck all day long. It was totally believable as a stunt man’s daily driver, but was still iconic. And it did it all while being brown and tan.

  7. Ste Worrall

A lot of the stunts in BOTH of these shows were tried and tested on The Dukes of Hazzard. Henry Kingi a TDOH regular stuntman drove The A Team van for all the sideways and airborn stunts, and Russel Solberg & Corey Eubanks, both TDOH gradutes did most of the vehicle stunts in the latter seasons of Fall guy……

  8. John

Got to give it to Lee Majors on this one – I dig the flying tailgate in the bus jump shots.

A team was a great show – but that van is just, well, it aint the fall guy truck.

I second the Simon & Simon theme as the greatest – with Magnum PI theme a close second.

  9. Mike Brooks

This is the toughest matchup so far. I got all real soft spot for those squarebody pickups, but my vote has to go to the van. Respect the van!

  10. cyclone03

    Gotta go with the van.

I love the realness of the truck, but the van does what the truck does with guns!

  11. Derek

Going to give it to the van, it just has the extra awesome over a jacked up pickup. This one was a really tough one!

  12. Chuck Norris

Boy this is a toss up, Lee Majors was cool, and he beat the hell out of that truck, and it could go anywhere, he was a stunt man and a bounty hunter. The A-team was cool and ridicoulous as well, and the van was cool, but if you are trying to hide from the goverment I don’t think you would drive around in a recognizable veh like that, loved the burn outs, and the crazy fool Murdock even drove it in one episode. Even though Hannibal would say I love it when a plan comes togather ! after besting the bad guys, I am going to go with the truck !

  13. crazy canuck

Fall guy truck inspired me to build my gmc like I did axel trusses brush guard lights etc the only thing I couldnt bring myself to do was paint it brown yuck. but still the truck wins.

  14. Big Rob

Man this is rough, I have owned two GMC’s, and I also am a Proud Owner of a ’79 Dodge van. I loved both shows, and If I had to have only one vehicle, I would have to get Colt’s GMC. That thing is too badass to let go. You have more people, make them drive, it’s me, my lady, and my dog/ best mate. Go fall Guy!
