We’re not going to lie to you. When we were trolling Kentucky Craigslist ads, we were looking to find the most bizarre, hill-jack, awful creation we could find. Instead though, we found the ultimate summer cruiser, a blazing red 1968 Caddy DeVille convertible. Pleasure driving season is on here at our east coast offices and this rolling zip code is a party on wheels.
The ad is extremely simple, only giving info that the original 472ci Cadillac tug-boat engine is still in place. That’s it, no other info. The pictures do a good job speaking for the car though. The paint looks good, the interior looks mint, and the only thing we’d figure out is a new wheel/tire package for it. The “simulated” wire hub caps don’t do this big fellow justice.
It’s mind-blowing to say, but this car weighs less than 400lbs more than a new Challenger. The shipping weight on the land yacht Caddy is 4600 pounds and the Challenger ships at 4200 and change. More than 18,000 convertibles were produced in 1968 and they had a factory price of $5736.00.
We’d try to beat this seller down to about $6,000 for this car. We’d then drive it until we sucked the Earth dry of gasoline.
