Among the pieces and parts that have seen the most intense development over the last 10-15 years now, shock absorbers are at the forefront. Companies like AFCO, which are rooted in the racing world continue to learn about and refine their products to give customers the performance edge on the street or the track, no matter the physical shape of said track. From drag machines that are pounding the strip with tiny tires, to circle track cars on dirt or asphalt, or modern pro touring cars that are changing directions, accelerating and stopping like rockets, advanced shock technology is at the root of it all.
In this video, Rex Merritt of AFCO goes through several of the company’s mono-tube racing shock options and what’s interesting to it about us is how he describes the different parts and pieces of the shocks and the benefits that they have. AFCO has recently begun offering a “stock mount” series of shocks for circle track racers that have to use stock mounting points in their suspension systems. These stock mount shocks fit those requirements while delivering some really good performance benefits over conventional pieces.
Even if you are not a circle track racer, you’ll come away from this video with good information and a better understanding of what a shock is doing and how people can tune them for the conditions that they will see in action. The same ideas come into play with performance road shocks and as we all know, the more you know the better you are. Watch this and enjoy –
