Yesterday, SVTPerformance.com broke the news that Chuck Watson Sr. had made the first 8-second pass with an S550 Mustang that still had IRS in it at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park. The run came on a hot and muggy night at the facility and it was the result of lots of hard work from the team. They were there making some test hits for the upcoming NMRA World Finals in Beech Bend, Kentucky and while they wanted to go fast, they did not expect to lay down the historic number that they did.
If you are a fan of Ford performance and do not know the same Watson Racing you must not have any sort of media available at the rock you are living under. These guys have been killing it in Cobra Jets and street legal cars for years and this is one of their crowning achievements. They have been hunting for this number for a while and likely have had the power to do it for some time but getting the chassis right and getting the IRS to work with the copious grunt the blown Coyote engine is making was the trick.
