Here’s a combo we can love. Take a classic muscle car, slap a straight axle under it, built a healthy motor and back it with a four speed and then go run it at the strip. The math there is unbeatable and will be until the end of time. In this case the car is a 1963 Ford. We have no idea what the engine is but let’s just call it a 427 side oiler because why wouldn’t we, right? The transmission? How about a Top Loader? Again, no idea on this end but if we’re going to dream something up we’re dreaming in this direction. Lastly if we had to think of a place to be running such a cool piece we’d pick the Eagle Field drags where this video was made.
The Eagle Field Runways Drags out in Firebaugh, California are setup and operated in the most pure and old school way you can imagine. Literally contested on a runway, it is about showing up and having a good time. A flagman starts the races, there is no timing system to speak of, and the only reason you go is to have a good time and to beat on your stuff with everyone else. With no sanctioning body or overlords complicating stuff, you’ll see everything from cars like this Fairlane to fuel altereds out there having fun. Amazingly despite the fact that there is no wall on the left side of the track there have been few, if any incidents of big crashes out there. The place has grown and grow in popularity over the years and the races now draw big crowds and lots of cars.
This dude is throwing down old school both inside AND outside the car!
Sorry but in no way is that powershifting. He is letting up on the throttle during the shift.
Are you watching this video? He is most definitely power shifting.
watch his foot. He lets up on the gas.
AGREED!
No visor, no fire jacket, no cage. Upside down and on fire is the wrong time to think about safety equipment. Just sayin’…
The in car starts at the 5 minute mark.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ai3cnc-77ZE
Gentlemen, if you prefer “real”stalgia racing, as opposed to “new”stalgia, then places like Eagle Field are your strips.
Gentlemen, if you prefer “real”stalgia racing over “new”stalgia, then places like Eagle Field are your only options.
Nope granny shifting lifting off the grass when shifting FOR SURE.
Seems like nobody does it anymore,
Attended an event at Eagle Field about 5 years ago. The track is only 1/8 mile and given the lack of any prep (real no prep!) and the fact that most of the cars are converted street cars running 11-12 seconds (1/4 mile) and slower the speeds are kept down and hence very few bad wrecks. When faster cars like altereds do go down the strip it is a real throw back as they often end up doing 1/8 mile burnouts.
