News, Notes, and Gossip From the 2010 SEMA show —
Showstoppers — The cars that are really drawing attention on the floor as of this writing on Wednesday are pretty varied. Cherry Bomb’s Camaro, which is located near the most traffic heavy areas of the front hall has been swarmed from the minute the show opened up to now. People are really gassed over the big roots blower on top of the LS Motor. The EFI setup on the car is way trick, too. We’ll have video tomorrow, taking you on a tour of that killer Camaro. Dennis Anderson’s insane King Sling truck is here. This is part baja truck, part monster truck, part mud bogger, and all freaking crazy. We’re going to hang out with Dennis later in the week and interview him about this incredible truck.
That’s a big b!t$h! — We overheard that quote from someone who had obviously never seen the Speed by Spectre streamliner in person. The car really is massive, and sitting on a raised podium in front of the big Spectre Performance display it makes it seem that much more so.
Hope springs eternal — At SEMA it does anyway. One of the thing we were most interested in seeing was the general attitude of vendors, manufacturers, and shop owners here at the show. While everyone acknowledges that things are a long way from being great in the economic sense, nearly to a person they all agree that the industry has adapted to the conditions well, and when all is said and done, the companies who weather the storm will come out better on the other side. The skills of the builders and the imagination of the companies showing new products here this week really show how resilient the whole aftermarket industry is.
Rumor Mill — Word on the street is that the Cherry Bomb “Disturbing the Peace” Camaro has already been tapped for a full magazine cover shoot that will happen early next week somewhere in the greater Vegas area. Congrats to the guys at Cherry Bomb and Year One, who constructed the car!
Wednesday Evening Update —
Is it going to be an 1/8th? — During a conversation with a long time drag racing journalist here at the show, we let us in on a rumor that he heard from a well placed source. The rumor? The NHRA is considering moving nitro classes to 1/8th mile competition due to the speeds that teams are now achieving in 1000′. We’re working on this story.
Larry turns 50 — We were the accessories in a crime against Larry Larsen when the crew at Aeromotive conspired to have a surprise birthday party for him in their display. We took Larry over and occupied him with some Ride Tech coil overs while the party was assembled. Larry turned all shades of red when we delivered him back to the waiting crowd. Happy birthday pal!
Holley brings the thunder — We were given a product tour at the Holley display and boy, those guys have been working! Between the EFI products, intake manifolds, and some cool engine dress up components, Holley has done a nice job of bringing some truly cool products to the market.
