While we’re certainly not known as guys who spend a lot of time talking about Nissan GTRs here at BangShift, we are guys who get impressed by amazingly quick and fast drag strip passes, especially when the driver has to steer like it is a road racing car! Yesterday we published our spooky list of ill-fated drag race cars and two of those cars were four wheel drive. In the story we said that the 4WD cars were a recipe for disaster and they were back then. With little way to manage the power other than simply trying to defeat physics, the cars were failures in their day. Today we have the technology to help harness the power and get things working together as to prevent imminent wreckage. But even with that technology, this video demonstrates how flippin’ tough it is to wheel a car down a drag strip that is applying the power to all four corners….and it is BIG power.
Believe it or not, this car is from the Ukraine and it was running at the Santa Pod Flame of Thunder Finals recently. (Somehow this became BangShift international drag racing week but we’re good with that because this stuff rules). As you’ll see, the driver does his burnout in what seems like 2wd mode, engages the front end, and stages the car. As the car comes off the line it seems to be pretty well behaved but when the boost comes in and the car really starts making steam, the driver literally has his hands full. The guy is counter steering right and left to keep the GTR in the groove. As the car makes its sprint to the finish line, the passenger window actually sucks out a la Tom Bailey on Drag Week!
This is a mean piece and it is one of the most intense 7-second runs we have ever seen filmed from inside the car. It is also cool that this car is from the Ukraine. Why? Because there HAS to be drag strips there for people like these guys to test these cars on. A 7-second GTR doesn’t fall out of a tree. These guys have been getting this thing prepped for the sevens for a long time!

Technically, it’s Flame ‘n’ Thunder. But what the hell. I love the ‘Pod and this one of the cooler passes I’ve seen there for a while!
Also that’s a Skyline GTR. The Skyline bit only dropped for the latest model.
