Cobra Jets under construction photos are right here! To say this shop space looks surgical would be an understatement. Oh to have this kind of room, tools, and equipment! Check out these photos our pals at Ford Performance Racing Parts sent over! I hope they are cool with us showing off all this stuff that is behind the curtains. If not, we’ll beg for forgiveness later.
Check out all the coolness!
I could make this space dirty in about 4 seconds.
Bending roll cage tubes and confirming fit with a jig! Cars getting built one at a time wouldn’t normally have this step. But since they are “production” race cars they have to do it this way to ensure everything will work together. Way cool.
Can I just have a quarter of this shop space?
Aeromotive for the win! The boys at Aeromotive supply every fuel system for every Cobra Jet Mustang. Want this setup for your non Cobra Jet? Give them a call, or hit them up on the web at AeromotiveInc.com
I wonder exactly where these are being built. One of the first years for the Cobra Jet they were built at Roush. I worked in the building at the time, though never on those cars. Pretty cool to see them being built.
The S550 CJ’s are being built at Watson Racing as were the S197’s. There’s a press release on Ford Performance’s website: http://racing.ford.com/series/drag-racing/news/articles/2016/02/see-how-the-mustang-cobra-jet-comes-together.html
I had the chance to visit Watson Racing last year on a tour with my Formula SAE team. Awesome shop and the Watson crew are great folks. They helped us with some last minute manufacturing and let us work in their shop. It was an incredible privilege not to mention being surround by all the CJ’s and folks that design, manufacture and race them.
*as were the later S197 CJ’s.
Hey Chad, I would be happy with 1 bay!
I just hope Ford doesn’t pull the crap they did a few years ago. Made a very limited number like 50 and let 1guy buy 10! Not cool
