Talk about a cool truck! This 1948 Ford F-5 COE wrecker is one of the neatest pieces of Ford iron we’ve ever seen. The cab over truck has a 292ci V8, and a three-speed manual transmission. It’ll get you out of the ditch or haul your car away, but the truck will not be in any type of a hurry judging by the lack of forward gears and what we assume to be a steep rear axle ratio.
The seller claims that he was going to use the truck as static advertising for his business so the exterior was cleaned up, painted, and made to look fresh. Mechanically, the truck is all there (aside from the radiator) and the tow rig on the back of it is fully functional.
Pay close attention to the shots of the can interior. If you are taller than an Oompah Lumpah, you’ll be wedging in. The interior was recently restored, which we dig because it was all done exactly back to factory. That little space looks like a torture chamber and sure must have felt like one sitting there for an 8-hour shift.
The truck is in Utah and shows zero sign of rust or any other degradation. This truck would have, and many probably did get eaten up by rust and other elements in the far reaches of the country.
We want this one badly!
