Tim Wilkerson is the most successful privateer professional funny car racer left in the world and we’re not stating that as opinion, that is a fact. The dude busts his ass, runs every event of the year, has won already this season, has made the countdown for the last eight years straight, and is an honest threat to win on a week to week basis. Many people (notably the dedicated fan base known as Wilk’s Warriors) love the guy to death and that includes us. He can wrench on these things like a mad man. He is covered in grease and clutch dust at all times, he motivates his team, and he is all too happy to tell a dumb announcer interesting and cool stuff about nitro engines when he asks. In short Tim Wilkerson is (in many ways) the Last American Drag Racing Hero. It is one thing to show up. It is wholly another thing to show up with the ability to win. He does that. But how?
The thing that the NHRA is doing a fantastic job of this year is telling people stories about the drivers and not just the same five people you have always heard about. They are telling the stories of the drivers that you want to learn about. Did anyone here know what Tim Wilkerson did for a job? What he owns for a business? How he manages to do this NHRA funny car racing at all? Watch this video and you will. You’ll learn about the man. You’ll see his operation. You’ll probably love the guy even more than you did already. If you love hard-nosed racers, Wilkerson is your guy. If you love an American success story, Wilkerson is your guy. If you love a guy who is still doing this junk as a lone wolf and kicking ass, Wilkerson is your guy.
I’m glad to see Tim getting the media coverage. He’s a real character. Always has time for fans and their questions. Tim’s the guy I root for every racing weekend. Warrior for life!!
Having had the opportunity to spend a bit of time around Tim away from the racetrack, I can attest that he’s one of the truly good guys.
Outstanding interview no crap out of his mouth no massive profile just a great racer with passion I worked for the Safety Safari at Indy 1990 so have a safe year
