The 444hp Boss 302 that powers the recently released Boss Mustang is now available as a crate engine from Ford Racing. The Boss 302 is the highest performance variant of the 5.0L engine that powers the “regular” Mustang GT model. The Boss features a bunch of upgrades over the standard issue 5.0 engine.
Outside of an extra 32hp, the engines are built like anvils with internal features like an aluminum block with cross bolted mains and beefed webbing, and 8.5 quart oil pan with unique baffling, a short runner intake manifold that is made of composite (and has already become a must have upgrade on non Boss engines), and 80mm throttle body, CNC ported aluminum heads, forged pistons and rods, and a total weight of just 444lbs. This engine makes peak power at 6500 RPM and to go along with the 444hp, there are 380 ft/lbs of torque.
They certainly are not giving these babies away, with a list price of $11,999, a full five grand over the cost of a standard 5.0L cammer engine. We want to put one in the nose of a Factory Five 33 Hot Rod!
