Let’s take a moment and appreciate two things that have our respect in full: Rhys Millen and Pikes Peak. Millen is a driver in the top-tier percentile. The man can make any task behind the wheel look stupidly simple. He’s an accomplished racer, drifter, stunt driver, and more. Then there is Pikes Peak, and all 14,110 feet of it’s glory rising above the Colorado plains. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of the most daunting tasks for a driver, and even with the road now fully paved, that doesn’t mean that the race is any less dangerous than it was back when McTaggart was slinging donuts at the top of the peak (true story!)
In the video below, you will get a helmet cam view of Millen’s class-winning run of 9:47.427 in Time Attack 1. The weapon of choice is the 2012 Hyundai Genesis that he’s used before at the mountain. The lap is perfect time-wise and is an exercise in clenching to watch…just be grateful that you weren’t in the car with him. We don’t care how brave you think you are, nearly six minutes into the lap, we’d bet that you’d be looking for something to hang on rather tightly to.
