This video 100% solidified the fact that I need to visit the Bithlo Mud Racing complex next year. This is a highlight reel from the 2.5-ton class at a Hill-n-Hole event. The name does not mean the trucks weigh 2.5 tons, instead it signifies the fact that these trucks use 2.5-ton Rockwell top loader axles. With their steep gear ratios, they are perfecto for huge tires and massive horsepower.
Regardless of your opinion of huge mud trucks, it is an undeniable fact that these are hot rods to the core. These are typically big block powered machines with nitrous being a part of the program on many trucks. Even with steep gearing it takes lots of horsepower and torque to spin massive tires as fast as these guys do. You’ll see everything from vintage Ford Broncos to later model Chevy trucks in this video. They all have massive amounts of lift, fully custom suspensions, and prodigious amounts of power.
These events look like a total riot and mark my words. Before 2012 closes, I will be at Bithlo to take in one of these shows first hand and give you the skinny on just how awesome it is. AC/DC Massive trucks slogging through the mud = BangShift video gold!
