Diesel Power Challenge 2017: Here’s The Quarter Mile Drag Racing Portion Of The Event

After the trucks hammered the eighth mile at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado the trailer was removed and the boys were turned loose on the full length of the track to run their stuff to the quarter mile stripe. The heads up drag racing part of the Diesel Power Challenge is always interesting because there are typically more than a couple of guys who have never actually drag raced before taking part in the event. We put on a little staging school for those guys which gave them an idea of what they would be looking at on the starting line.

It is always interesting, like the dyno portion of the event, to see who can figure out not only the tune up for the conditions but also the strategy for the traction on the strip. One of the defining parts of the Diesel Power Challenge is the fact that the trucks have to run the same set of tires for the whole event. That means you cannot bolt on slicks for the strip. You’ll see that some guys had better traction than others when the throttles were opened.

In typical fashion, there was carnage, breakage, and heartbreak. There was also a competitor that kicked everyone’s ass and garnered the most points for the speediest and most head to head portion of the contest. Which brand got the job done? Were there upsets? You’ll have to watch and fine out!
