Money No Object: This 1965 Plymouth Sport Fury Is One Of Four 426 Street Wedge Drop-Tops!

Mopar fans live by numbers, be it cubic inches, elapsed times, millions of dollars spent at auction, or how many times they’ve been threatened with bodily harm if they bring home yet another rusted pile of car. But the one key number that keeps 95% of that subsection of society frothing at the mouth is usually expressed as “one of X”, X equalling how many identical types of vehicle like it were built from the factory. For example, one out of eleven 1971 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda convertibles is a well-known figure…and fully explains how the E-body droptop hits stupidly high prices at auctions. But there are other models that are equally, if not more noteworthy, than a ‘Cuda.

Take this 1965 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible. On it’s own, it’s a gorgeous car…gold, hubcaps, well sorted and ready for top-down cruising, this isn’t something to kick out of the garage. But Plymouth cranked out the Fury in many different shapes like nothing…what’s so special about this car? Enter another number: 426. Not Street Hemi, but Street Wedge. At 365 horsepower and 470 ft/lbs of torque, it didn’t embarass itself at all, but unlike the Hemi, wasn’t a tempermental mill that required tons of attention to keep up, either. This was a very streetable heavy puncher that either gave Dad’s car a good run or, in the hands of Junior, was still something to behold on Friday nights.

Oh, and it’s one of four examples made for 1965. Supposedly. Not that we really care about the “one of” number. We just want to hear that Wedge bark through the pipes some.

This car has been discussed on other forums. It is NOT 1 of 4 made, just 1 of 4 in Galen Govier’s registry

    I call Bullshit.

A major mfg doesn’t make four only of any production car for sale to the public. Even by mistake. Get Real, you’re talking to adults here.

    Go sell crazy somewhere else.

When some one says ” one of … ” that means only 4 made just like that. There are a lot of cars built today with low production numbers. It may be a goofy color combo. with stupid hubcaps. But they only made 12 like this. That does not make it real collectable. This car didn’t sell for a huge sum of money. Cool rag top.The drive train is very sought after .But that body is not a big collector item. I could see it being one of 4. Ragtop ,426 wedge ,gold ,black interior ,those hub caps and auto. And only 3 others just like that.Yep one of 4

Exactly. As optioned, 1 of 4. Nothing unusual at all. If it had “heater delete”, it would be 1 of 1.

Apparently people do not understand what 1 of X means. Also, being somewhat of an aficionado of the Chrysler C-Body I can tell you that a 426 wedge C-Body is a rare bird (for 65, the first year of the Fury being designated a C-Body) a 426 C-Body drop top is even rarer. If that thing was equipped with a manual trans…man, you’d really have something unique. Will this sell for millions? No, never. I would expect something like this should bring close to 30K to the right buyer…
