(Photos and words by Doug Gregory) – The Hullabaloo brings out some pretty trick stuff and this Fox-body notch is one prime example. The routing, craftsmanship, and attention to detail under the hood of this thing pegs the meter in my book. Uber clean. Bob McCarty brought his gorgeous Caddy over from Evansville, IN to support Shelby’s Way. Bob and his wife Mary are leaders in the Evansville Shindig – another traditional hot rod and custom event. Many of the folks you will see at the Hullabaloo also attend the Shindig.
Jeremy Lilly’s gorgeous early red Ford pickup was named the official promotional vehicle for the 2018 Shelby’s Way ‘Blankets & Blessings’ run which is normally held early in November. We missed that one because all our vehicles were/are broken. The lifted VW Rabbit was very cool. I hadn’t even seen of photo of it previous to this event so it was a bit of a shocker. Would like to know just how capable it is. We end this one with some shots from the gravity car race. There are rules, but they are kinda lax because this is for fun.
They got the use of a taller ramp this year courtesy of Tony McConnell from the Straight-Axle Mafia. One highlight from the race was the Lexington Fire Department’s entry. A saddle on a massive air tank with a functional air horn was a hit with the crowd. Though it didn’t win….it’s repeated blasts from the horn made for much entertainment as it attempted to disrupt their competitor’s concentration. Over the years we’ve been watching this it would seem the smaller-wheeled entries have a clear advantage. Less is more.
